Breast Lift

Stretching of the skin of the breast is produced mainly by weight changes and/or aging. After breastfeeding or losing a considerable amount of weight, most women feel uncomfortable with the size, contour and shape of their breasts. If you presently have C cup or larger breasts, you are a candidate for mastopexy.

A Breast Lift or Mastopexy consists of lifting, firming, and reducing the size of the breasts by removing excess skin and giving support to the breasts under the nipple area, and moving the nipple upwards. The new position is maintained with stitches tightened in the major pectoral muscle, giving more volume to the upper half of the gland. The surgery will reduce your breasts' volume, lifting them and giving you improved stability. If you wish to keep the same volume as before, breast implants can be placed under the pectoralis muscles.

Incisions are made on each side of the breast, which connect to a keyhole-shaped incision above the nipple. Working through the incisions, excess skin is removed from the lower portion of the breast. The breast tissue is lifted to a higher position, and the nipple is placed in the keyhole incision. Sutures are used to connect the skin on both sides of the breast and around the nipple.

After the surgery, scars are left around the areola, below the areola, and a line in a radial oblique position towards the crease of the breast, shaped as a lollipop. The stitches are removed after two weeks, and the inside stitches are reabsorbed by the body after 6 months.

For women with large breasts that have dropped considerably, mastopexy and liposuction are done in conjunction to reduce the excess fat and skin in the breasts, lifting them and reducing their size.

On the other hand, a Crescent Mastopexy is ideal for women with small breasts that have dropped. It consists of the removal of the skin in the upper part of the areola. The skin removed has a crescent moon shape. After the skin removal, the areola is repositioned upwards.

For women with C cup or smaller breasts that have dropped moderately, crescent mastopexy together with liposuction is recommended to lift the breasts.

Mastopexy, Crescent Mastopexy and Breast Reduction can be combined depending on the patient's needs. These surgeries are done under local anesthesia and sedation, and they can be done with other surgical procedures.

Length of procedure: 2-3 hours
Type of anesthesia: Local anesthesia plus sedation
Hospital stay: 6-8 hours
Post-operatory stay in Costa Rica: 7 days
